Page | 53 CITY RECOGNIZED HOLIDAYS 601 The City recognizes and observes the following holidays for all regular City employees: New Year's Day January 1st Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 3rd Monday in January Memorial Day Last Monday in May Independence Day July 4th Labor Day First Monday in September Veteran's Day November 11th Thanksgiving Day Fourth Thursday in November Christmas December 25th When one of the above designated holidays falls on Saturday, the holiday will normally be observed on the preceding Friday. When one of the above holidays falls on Sunday, the holiday will normally be recognized on the following Monday. For the purposes of this policy, full-time regular employees will receive up to eight (8) hours of paid holiday leave during the workweek of the recognized holiday regardless of their work schedule. Employees that work alternative work schedules and are not scheduled to work on the observed holiday, will be granted up to eight (8) hours of holiday leave pay during the same workweek. Regular part-time employees will receive prorated holiday leave pay based on their fulltime equivalency. Other employee categories are not eligible to receive holiday pay. Employees that are on an unpaid leave of absence are not eligible to receive holiday pay. FLOATING HOLIDAY LEAVE 602 In addition to the City recognized holidays, regular full-time employees are granted 24 hours of floating holiday leave at the beginning of each calendar year. For newly hired employees, floating holiday leave will be granted based on the timing of their start date: January – May 24 Hours June – September 16 Hours October – November 8 Hours Regular part-time employees will receive floating holiday leave based on their full-time equivalency. Other employee categories are not eligible to receive floating holiday leave. Subject to supervisor approval, floating holidays may be taken at any time within the same calendar year they were granted. However, unused floating holidays cannot be carried over from one calendar year to the next and will be lost. VACATION LEAVE BENEFITS 603 The City provides the following vacation leave program for eligible employees not covered under a collective bargaining agreement: Basic Eligibility – To be eligible to accrue vacation leave benefits, an employee must be in a regular position that is scheduled to work at least twenty (20) hours per week on an on-going basis.
