Employees who violate this policy will be subject to discipline up to and including discharge. BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT 113 In accordance with provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), the city will provide designated lactation spaces for new mothers and allow them time to express milk during their break and meal period (if applicable) for up to one year following the birth of the child. In order to resolve any room scheduling issues, nursing mothers should notify Human Resources of the need for lactation accommodations in advance of their returning to work. A designated lactation room may be used for other purposes provided its use as a lactation room takes priority. If a department/work unit is not able to provide a nursing mother with a suitable space to express breast milk, then adequate time to travel to and from another City building where an appropriate room/space is located will be allowed.
